OUR SCHOOL HISTORY

Woodbridge Primary School is more than 50 years old and has a long tradition of excellence.
The school was formerly known as Laerskool Zonnekus/ Zonnekus Primary School and offered tuition in both English and Afrikaans. The current school building was officially opened in 1959.
During the apartheid era the school used to serve only those families living in the immediate vicinity which is Milnerton proper, then an exclusively White, fairly affluent suburb. Of course many things have changed since then. Our school is now an ex-Model C school in the building structure alone. We have, since 1993, been open to children of any race, colour, religion or culture and nowadays we have very few children from Milnerton proper. Due to the changed enrolment, the demand for Afrikaans tuition slowly diminished and, in 1996, the name of the school was changed to WOODBRIDGE PRIMARY. The medium of instruction became English only, although Afrikaans continued to be offered as an additional language.
We serve mostly the areas of Rugby, Brooklyn and Sanddrift, as well as Marconi Beam and Phoenix. Many of our school families do have some financial challenges and we, as a school, therefore also face many financial challenges. But this does not hold us back ! Our children are at the centre of our school and we do not compromise on the standard of teaching we offer. We try our very best to provide them with the best that we can. We do achieve this in many, many ways but our desire is always to do more.
We enjoy a school which is rich in diversity and we are proud of the variety of languages, cultures and religions amongst our pupils and our staff as well.
Our school is growing and improving all the time because at Woodbridge we persevere to succeed.

Our Mission:

Dedicated educators will strive to instill an ethos of life-long learning in each learner. Together with the involvement of parents and the broader community, we will strive to provide balanced and exciting curricular, extra-curricular and cultural activities in order to grow and develop our learners holistically – mind, body and spirit. Our goal is to help each one to become a productive, positive member of our society.
Our Vision:

For Woodbridge Primary School to be a leader in offering a safe and nurturing environment in which learners are guided towards acquiring knowledge, developing skills, practicing sound values and exercising self-discipline in order to reach their full potential and realise their personal dreams.
